Underwater

The film "Unterwasser" ("Underwater") is a hommage to the fairytale "Undine" by Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué. But whoever could have imagined that such a lovely creature would return with the intention to take revenge on human beings after almost 200 years? In contrast to the novel, in the film she doesn't make an effort to adapt herself to the people and their ideas. She creates her own romantic world in which she eliminates everything and everybody who disturbs the fullfilment of her imagination. She represses her deeds so intensively that during the film she seems more likely to be the victim and not the perpetrator.
You don't get to know the conflict of her identity until the film ends. Since she wants to be with her lover Hans for eternity, she kills him with a kiss. Like in the novel, she reimmerses into the dense clarity of water, which is the confession to her inability to live in the real world.
